Meet Heather

Welcome!

I'm so glad you stopped by.

At an early age, I could pick up on facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, energy and determine what people needed or felt at that moment.  I knew if a teacher was going to "blow her gasket" or a classmate had hit their teasing limit way before anyone around me noticed something was array.  Friends confided in me - sharing their deepest thoughts, feelings, hopes, and fears.

My wiring for compassion started as young as I can remember. I have been able to read people ever since I was a little girl.

For a long time, I tried to ignore or hide this personality trait. I'd even go as far as thinking that what others were feeling was my fault, were my feelings, or my responsibility to fix. I wasn't sure where others ended and I began.  I was terribly confused, frustrated, and emotionally exhausted.

That's when I found a counselor.

She helped me separate myself from those around me. I started to see my empathy skills and intuition as God given gifts and to use them in ways that not only helped others, but honored myself.

Counseling was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I am forever grateful for that guidance during my early formative years. That experience sparked a dream in me.

In 2009, I obtained my Masters of Social Work degree from Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa and have been offering psychotherapy and support to children, teens, adults, and families ever since. I spent many years in mental health, school, and private practice arenas until I founded Kaloupek Counseling, a private counseling practice in Decatur, Illinois in 2016.

It is my joy and life long calling to help others. I love to meet individuals who have spunk and don't fit the mold in their school, workplace, or family; who have questions about their faith, purpose, and existence; and want to challenge their thoughts and perceptions. I believe people who can laugh at their mess and have vulnerable "lose track of all time" conversations make the best friends.

I am a wife to a funny blue devil, a mom to three lively boys, and a singer both on stage and in my child's ear. I love Jesus, the unique people He created, but am the slowest at returning a text.

You can find all of my wit, wisdom, and wellness tips on this blog. From funny parenting mistakes, honest life experiences, and professional expertise -

I hope you leave both inspired and with the feeling you are truly known.

~Heather
